The 14th International Seminar organized by Steel Tech will focus on green steelmaking and the road map to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. The key innovations that will be discussed will tackle many issues: use of fossil fuels with carbon capture and storage; hydrogen-based ironmaking; production of clean energy; direct electrolysis ironmaking.
During the event, Praveen Chaturvedi, Vice President at Tenova Technologies Pvt Ltd, will be among the speakers presenting "Production of Green Pig Iron without CO2 Emissions - A proven CO2-free alternative to Blast Furnaces Production". Currently there are various ways of approaching the decarbonization of the steelmaking industry. There is, however, an alternative approach which allows the integrated mill operator to optimize investment costs by keeping its downstream facilities in operation while replacing only the BF ironmaking installation using a direct reduction-open slag bath furnace (DRI-OSBF) for hot metal (HM) production. This is also an attractive possibility for new steelmakers looking to produce pig iron with a minimum carbon footprint.
