- Utilise chemical energy contained in cleaned off gas (CO rich) as an energy source – thereby reducing the electrical energy required by up to 15%
- Volatiles are removed from feed blend prior to furnace, thereby improving off gas CO quality
- Hot, dried feed results in less electrode movement, improving furnace stability

- Multiple units, that allows independent control per unit, reacting to furnace conditions. Multiple units allow for the pre-heater vessels to be located around the electrodes (not above), reducing the furnace building height.

The multiple pre-heater innovates by introducing the hot gas in the centre of the pre-heating vessel. The counter current flow, and centralized introduction of thermal energy improves heat transfer.
The pre-heater vessel is also designed as an integrated unit with the cold feed system. This ensures that the vessel maintains the required feed volume.
The development was driven by Tenova’s ongoing commitment to design technologies that reduce pyrometallurgical processes impact on industry.
Safety
Safety is at the core of Tenova’s designs. Due to the fact that CO is combusted, careful attention is paid to the furnace off-gas composition and the efficiency of the combustion process.
The multiple pre-heater is one element of an integrated control system that controls the furnace, gas cleaning plant and multiple pre-heater.
Automation
Control of the furnace process, safety and equipment protection is achieved using advanced automation, as developed by Tenova with input and collaboration from the customer. The Tenova Pyromet AutoFurn™ Furnace Controller is an intelligent system that provides and additional level of automation, above the SCADA and PLC.
Tenova's furnace controller is a sought after furnace management system. The controller program is written according to the process & client requirements. It is programmed to react on current furnace conditions to achieve maximum power input. The controller also enables furnace personnel to: Steady furnace power input over a wide range of operating conditions, to operate the furnace at its ideal set point, to monitor alarms and keep trends/Statistics of operation.
Digital
Tenova EDGE ™ is Tenova’s proprietary developed interface to facility all data management, giving customers peace of mind when sensitive data is exchanged.
Authentication an authorization of any data exchange can be defined and customized in compliance with each customer’s specific IT department policies.
Tenova’s proprietary AutofurnTM furnace control is at the heart of the process control system. The complete plant is fitted with state of the art automation and control systems, designed to not only provide optimum control, but also pro-actively identify potential maintenance areas.
Tenova offers a suite of digital products that complements the core automation system. This includes the development of KPI, production forecasts, early notification of preventative maintenance works and the ability (subject to customer preference) the ability for Tenova process specialists to assist remotely with process fault-finding and optimisation tasks.
