With its focus on digitalization and sustainability, the world's most important industrial trade fair is setting clear impulses for the transformation of business and industry.
Also this year, Salzgitter Group will be again present at the Hanover Trade Fair, with a special focus on the Circular Economy. The key theme is the transformation of steel production on the path to processes with a low carbon footprint and the production of green steel products. SALCOS® – Salzgitter Low CO2Steelmaking – is the project in which Tenova is involved and which makes the Salzgitter Group a pioneer in the steel industry. The two companies have recently agreed to step up their close technical cooperation.
SALCOS® can be experienced first hand and close up, along with the conversion of the steelworks site, in a cave (a special room projecting virtual reality): here, the new electrolysis installations for hydrogen production, direct reduction plants more than 100 meters high, and electric arc furnaces all become a virtual reality and visualize the dimensions of the transformation.
Tenova is one of the prestigious partners who will be hosted at the booth (Hall 3, Stand H28) in a special corner, on which a 3D model of a direct reduction plant will be exhibited. The model shows the essential elements of an ENERGIRON® plant. ENERGIRON® is the innovative HYL Direct Reduction Technology jointly developed by Tenova and Danieli.
The Direct Reduction technology represents the central element in the transformation process of the steel industry, replacing coal/coke with natural gas or hydrogen. In combination with electric melters, this makes it possible to produce steel in a virtually climate-neutral way.
The ENERGIRON® process scheme represents the state of the art in direct reduction technologies and, in addition to the flexible use of reduction gases and feedstocks, it is the only direct reduction process that allows the 100% use of hydrogen and the commercialization of by-products such as CO2.
