Tenova Pyromet is a leading company in the design and supply of high technology integrated melting and smelting plants for the production of ferroalloys, base metals and Pig Iron, with a successful history going back more than 100 years.

- Designs exceeding 40MW
- Ability to offer composite and pre-baked electrode technology (depending on plant size), with the option of conversion to Al casing based Soderberg designs
- Integrated design of primary smelting and gas cleaning, ensuring maximum silicon yield
- Complete plant design, from materials receiving to final product, including silicon fume handling, crushing and screening and bagging facilities
- Either positive or negative pressure reverse air gas cleaning systems, with maximum recovery of silicon fume – a significant revenue stream for Silicon metal operations.
Innovation
Innovation is integral to every part of the silicon metal furnace design; the shell and refractory lining designs eliminate the need for bottom cooling systems. Depending on customer needs composite or pre-baked electrode technology may be used, giving maximum flexibility.
In addition to the conventional positive pressure bag house used in the past, Tenova has also developed a negative pressure reverse air bag house that is needed for continuous environmental emission monitoring.
Electrical design gives customers a wide operating window for their plants, a key feature in this day and age where raw material supply chain may be disrupted at short notice.
Safety
Safety is at the core of Tenova’s designs.
Gas Monitors are used to monitor the gas composition in real time; H2 information is a key indicator of potential water leaks, and to measure moisture content of the feed.
Automation
Tenova’s proprietary AutofurnTM furnace control is at the heart of the process control system. The complete plant is fitted with state of the art automation and control systems, designed to not only provide optimum control, but also pro-actively identify potential maintenance areas.
Tenova offers a suite of digital products that complements the core automation system. This includes the development of KPI, production forecasts, early notification of preventative maintenance works and the ability (subject to customer preference) the ability for Tenova process specialists to assist remotely with process fault-finding and optimisation tasks.
Tenova EDGE ™ is Tenova’s proprietary developed interface to facility all data management, giving customers peace of mind when sensitive data is exchanged.
Environment
Tenova uses cutting edge technology to ensure that environmental protection and compliance with legislation are integrated into the design of each smelting plant. Silicon metal furnaces utilise bag filters, where Tenova includes the clean air emissions quality as a process guarantee.
Tenova’s tapping fume extraction system is located above each taphole to capture the fumes released during the tapping process. The extraction system is connected to a dedicated fugitive air cleaning bag filter, which cleans the fumes prior to exhausting to the atmosphere. Our fume extraction systems ensure that environmental standards are met and give peace of mind to our clients.
Engineering Modelling and Investigations, including FEA and CFD Modelling are used to make sure the best possible design is delivered for each project, ensuring adherence to the best possible environmental standards.
