On the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, Tenova highlights the shared responsibility in the fight to stop gender-based violence
In 1999, November 25 was designated as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The day was selected to honor the Mirabal sisters, three political activists from the Dominic Republic who were murdered in 1960 by order of the country’s ruler, Rafael Trujillo.
Since then, every November 25 the global community comes together to raise awareness on gender-based violence, which to this day remains the most pervasive human rights violation. This year, Tenova has promoted an internal campaign focused on the importance of being active participants in this fight with the motto “Raise a Hand: Make a Stand”. Employees have been encouraged to make personalized red handprints to symbolize their commitment and raise awareness.
