Tenova Joins the Heavy Industry Low-carbon Transition Cooperative Research Centre (HILT CRC)

Tenova has officially joined the Heavy Industry Low-carbon Transition Cooperative Research Centre (HILT CRC), a leading research consortium dedicated to accelerating the decarbonization of heavy industry

HILT CRC: Driving the Low-Carbon Transition in Heavy Industry

Established in 2021 and operating as a registered organization in Australia, Heavy Industry Low-carbon Transition Cooperative Research Centre (HILT CRC) brings together heavy-industry companies, research institutes, and the Australian Government to move breakthrough projects from laboratory research to pilot-scale implementation. Its mission is to enable practical and scalable pathways toward low-emission industrial production.

Launch of the Green Metals Innovation Network

In 2025, CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation) and HILT CRC announced the creation of the Green Metals Innovation Network, an initiative aimed at accelerating the development of low-emission metal production. This milestone further highlights the strategic relevance of HILT CRC within the global sustainability landscape.

Strategic Alignment Between Tenova and HILT CRC

Following discussions with the HILT partnership team to better understand collaboration models, membership requirements, and the potential value for Tenova, the company identified strong alignment with its strategic priorities. In light of the increasing interest in the Australian market - particularly in iron-ore extraction and iron and steelmaking - this partnership is expected to offer significant benefits.

Key Benefits of Tenova’s Membership

Through its membership in HILT CRC, Tenova will gain:

  • Access to Australia’s industrial and academic networks;
  • Opportunities to collaborate on joint research and pilot projects with leading industry players and research organizations;
  • Strategic insights into Australian steel decarbonization initiatives and enabling technologies;
  • Enhanced positioning within a market strongly committed to low-carbon transformation.

Strengthening Tenova’s Role in Sustainable Metals Production

This step further reinforces Tenova’s commitment to driving innovation and supporting the global transition toward sustainable metals production, while actively contributing to the consortium’s initiatives and strengthening its presence within the Australian ecosystem.
