Castellanza, June 03, 2025 – Hasçelik, a leading producer of specialty steel in Turkey, has successfully produced its first steel using Tenova’s advanced steel technologies at its next-generation steel mill in Bilecik, Turkey. Tenova, a leading developer and provider of sustainable solutions for the green transition of the metals industry, was responsible for engineering and supplying of the new state-of-the art liquid steel production line. The new strategic facility was brought to life with an investment of approximately €150 million.
Equipped with state-of-the-art Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) technology and designed with a focus on sustainable production, the new steel mill marks a significant milestone not only for Hasçelik but also for the broader Turkish industrial sector, elevating industry standards in quality, energy efficiency, and environmental sustainability.
As part of the project, Tenova implemented its Consteel® Electric Arc Furnace (EAF), Ladle Furnace (LF), and Twin Vacuum Degasser (VD) systems. The new EAF features the advanced non-contact electromagnetic stirring technology, developed jointly with ABB and tailored to continuously charge the EAF, therefore increasing productivity, energy and resource efficiency.
The Bilecik facility has been designed to provide flexible and rapid responses to the growing demand for specialty steel in both domestic and international markets.
Naci Faydasıçok, Chairman of the Board at Hasçelik, shared the following remarks: “This investment represents one of the most strategic steps Hasçelik has taken toward the future. The steel mill now operational in Bilecik will not only increase our production capacity but also usher in a new era in our steel production capabilities. We are proud to collaborate with a globally renowned technology partner like Tenova. This facility will add significant value to Turkish industry and further strengthen our position in the specialty steel sector.”
“We are proud to be working for such a dynamic and innovative company as Hasçelik, who chose our technologically advanced solutions after a deep scrutiny of all available alternatives” commented Paolo Stagnoli, Sales and Marketing Director EAF&LF at Tenova. “Beyond the considerations on quality, efficiency and sustainability, the line we supplied has been conceived to be highly flexible in the choice of charge materials, which is crucial for modern steelmakers to successfully navigate the present volatile market conditions and tackle the challenges of the future”.
Hasçelik’s new steel mill investment stands out for its digitalized, automation-driven, and energy-efficient infrastructure, while also making a notable contribution to local employment. Once fully operational, the project is expected to create approximately 500 new jobs in the region.
