Milano/Mississauga, December 17, 2015 - At the recent TGI Days In Japan technical meetings, held in cooperation by Tenova Goodfellow Inc. and Sumitomo Shoji Machinex Corp. Ltd., celebrations were in order to commemorate the first sale of EFSOP® technology within the Japanese steel market. In 2005, Topy Industries Ltd. became the first steelmaker to install the EFSOP® process control system at their Toyohashi Works, in Aichi, Japan.

In recognition of the occasion, a plaque was presented to Kenji Kamite, Manager, Steelmaking Engineering Group - Steelmaking department Toyohashi Works Steel Division by Tenova Goodfellow CEO, Marcello Pozzi. "It was an honor for me on behalf of Tenova to present this recognition to Topy Industries. We are thankful to Topy for being the first to introduce EFSOP® technology in Japan and for their partnership to achieve and maintain outstanding results.

"The original project was a great success story achieving environmental reductions of 18% GHG emissions overall. Consumption levels for kerosene were reduced by 45%, as well as a 13% reduction in coal consumption being realized. Overall, ongoing annual cost savings at Topy Industries was CAD $1.5 million. The successful project was also recognized with an Award of Excellence by the Consulting Engineers of Ontario in 2007.

During the last decade, Topy Industries has continuously used their valued EFSOP® technology to improve their knowledge of the furnace practice resulting in a greater return on investment. Based on the success demonstrated by their initial EFSOP® system, in 2013, Topy purchased 2 new EFSOP® systems for use on their newly installed EAF.
