Duisburg, November 9, 2023 - On November 6, 2023, during the 6th China International Import Expo (CIIE), representatives from Tenova LOI Thermprocess and Ansteel Group participated in the signing ceremony for the contract of an Annealing and Coating Line (ACL). The event was held at the National Convention and Exhibition Center in Shanghai and was organized by Ansteel. Tenova LOI Thermprocess is a leader in supplying industrial furnace systems for the heat treatment and melting of metals and is part of Tenova, a provider of sustainable solutions for the green transition of the metals industry.

Following a joint speech titled “Sustainability - Ready to Go”, the two parties signed the contract for the annealing furnace that Tenova LOI Thermprocess will supply as the core unit of the ACL. This represents another milestone in the long-term collaboration between Tenova LOI Thermprocess Group and Ansteel Group.

The supply is part of Ansteel Group’s new steel project that aims to produce electrical steel for electric vehicles (EVs) and will represent the first production line of this kind in Northeast China. The highlight of the line is the annealing furnace equipment supplied by Tenova. It combines imported key equipment and furnace automation control from Tenova LOI Thermprocess, Germany, and local supply from Tenova Technologies (Tianjin), China.

It was a great honour for us to participate in the ceremony of Ansteel signature events in Shanghai, which underlines our longstanding collaboration with Ansteel,” stated Christian Schrade, Managing Director, Tenova LOI Thermprocess. “We are proud to take part in green steel initiatives such as these and help propel forward the green energy transition.

Tenova LOI Thermprocess’ ACL for non-grain oriented (NGO) electrical steel strip is specially designed for high annealing temperatures, high H2 content in the process gas as well as high strip processing speed. Advanced cooling systems guarantee low cooling rates and most uniform cooling effects across the steel strip width, which are crucial for high grade NGO electrical steel strip, especially for electrical vehicles (EV).

A modern process gas separation concept enables the furnace sections to run under different process gas combinations. Tenova LOI Thermprocess mathematical models are integrated in the furnace control PLC to fulfil the demanding requirements for strip annealing accuracy and stability.

Once this complex project has been completed, the new production line will be able to meet Ansteel’s demand for the high-grade electrical steel required for the manufacture of EVs, enabling it to become a global player in sustainable steel and facilitate a green path to industrialization.
