Castellanza, September 30, 2026 – Tenova, a leading developer and provider of sustainable solutions for the metals and mining industries, has been awarded a contract by Nippon Steel Corporation through Daido Steel Co., Ltd. as EPC contractor, to supply a Consteel® Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) for Nippon Steel’s Hirohata plant in Himeji, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan.
The new furnace, with a heat size of 110 tons, will be the second Consteel® EAF installed at the Hirohata Works, following the success of Hirohata 1, commissioned in 2022. Designed for the production of high-grade special steels through electric steelmaking, the new state-of-the-art furnace sets a new standard in operational flexibility and process efficiency. Building on the experience gained from the first installation, Tenova’s technology allows for high adaptability.
Combining continuous scrap preheating with advanced automation systems, the new EAF optimizes energy consumption, melting performance, and process stability. The installation once again demonstrates Tenova’s commitment to circular, low-emission steel production and its ability to tailor cutting-edge technologies to each customer’s transformation path.
