TRGS Self-Regenerative Burners
TRGS burners are Tenova self-regenerative burners able to maximize combustion air preheating temperature in heat treatment applications. This self-regenerative burner is extremely compact since it relies on ceramic honeycombs as regenerative media.
Overview
TRGS burner has two internal chambers that work in a cyclic way by alternating firing and regenerating phases with a typical inversion time of 20 seconds. The burners are typically regulated in on-off mode. However, it is also possible to work in ±10% around the nominal capacity: at 100% turndown the burner fires continuously while at lower loads the burner works by pulse firing with a variable pause time. Typically, TRG-S burners can work up to 1000°C. For higher operating temperature, a special nozzle design can be provided.
Technical Data
Main technical features:
- Allow to use the regenerative combustion system with only one burner instead of using a couple of burner
- High efficiency and high CO2 reduction by means of high air preheating typical of regenerative burners
- Low NOx flame below 800 °C
- Ultra Low NOx emissions by means of flameless combustion (only above 800°C)
Fuels: Natural Gas, COG, LPG (and hydrogen mixtures of them).
Turn down: 20%-100%
Innovation
Intense air preheating about 100-200°C below furnace temperature.
Maximum furnace temperature: 1000°C (1300°C special design)
Air excess: min 10% (below 800°C) min 5% (above 800°C)
Regenerated waste gases: about 80% of total POC (products of combustion)
Working mode:
- From ambient temp-up to 1000°C à → regenerative air preheating (100% hot air)
In case of special design (up to 1300°C of process temperature):
- From ambient temperature to 750°C à → cold air operation
- Above 750°C à → regenerative air preheating (100% hot air)
Combustion mode:
- Low NOx flame below 800 °C
- Flameless for ultra-low NOx (only above 800°C)
Air preheating efficiency:
TRGS 2, TRGS 4
TRGS 6, TRGS 8
Safety
Ignition and flame supervision:
- TRGS2, TRGS4, TRGS6 : Spark ignition + Flame ionization (or UV)
- TRGS8: Pilot burner (about 1.5 kW) + Flame ionization (or UV)
Cooling air for spark igniter: About 1 Nm3/h (connection ¼” internal thread)
Automation
On/off or modulated control with correction of air excess.
- High turndown: continuous firing
- Lower turndown: pulse firing with variable pause time.
Environment
Emissions (at the stack):
- Diluted flame mode: furnace temperature 800° C, air excess 10%:
- NOx less than 60 ppm @ 3% O2 in Dry Flue Gases
- CO less than 20 ppm @ 3% O2 in Dry Flue Gases
- Flameless mode: furnace temperature 950° C, air excess 10%:
- NOx less than 20 ppm @ 3% O2 in Dry Flue Gases
- CO less than 20 ppm @ 3% O2 in Dry Flue Gases
The reported values are the expected one with natural gas firing. The guaranteed values will be fixed case by case according to furnace type and working conditions.
