Overview
Drawing on decades of experience in designing and supplying electric SAFs across various industries, Tenova Pyromet has tailored SAFs for the Mineral wool industry. This marks a departure from typical processes where the metal streams are usually the primary product and slag is often considered a waste stream. By developing this design and associated equipment, Tenova Pyromet can assist customers in transforming waste (blast furnace slag) into a valuable product for the building industry. Mineral wool, as an insulation product, is considered to contribute significantly to the “triple bottom line” of sustainability (environment, society, and economy).
Technical Data
Mineral wool furnaces with a slag tapping rate of 6 tph and above.
Slag tapping temperatures typically range between 1400°C and 1600 °C, depending on the specific feed mix and target slag chemistry.
Adjustments to slag chemistry are possible to make modifications and achieve various slag design targets, including viscosity and resulting fiber characteristics.
Depending on the overall plant configuration, the SAF can be designed to recycle a fairly high percentage of “shot” (waste or off-spec material).

Automation
AutoFurnTM, Pyro Mobile and customized SCADA HMIs serve to monitor system parameters, automate the control of the furnace power and feed for balanced furnace operation.

Little or no carbon addition needed which means savings in terms of the material costs associated with coke.
Emissions are greatly reduced compared with traditional processes, particularly if the electric supply is largely from renewable sources. This reduction in emissions not only aligns with environmental sustainability goals but also underscores the positive impact of the Mineral wool production process on mitigating climate change. Digital
Pyro Mobile allows for real-time access to equipment operating parameters from the field. Pyro Mobile is a furnace commissioning tool using industrial panels / tablets for remote access and control of equipment during commissioning. The tool enables remote access of equipment operating data using applications for Android or Apple devices. Alerts and Alarms can be sent to users to be notified of any alarms or trips on critical equipment. Remote access to drawings and equipment datasheets are also attainable with this tool.
