The project will incorporate cutting-edge automation, digital technologies, and machine learning to enhance efficiency, precision, and production capacity
Tenova has been awarded a contract by Marcegaglia - one of Italy’s top industrial groups in the national and international steel sector - to modernize and restart its 20-Hi Cold Rolling Mill at the Gazoldo degli Ippoliti plant in Mantua, Italy.
The revamp will include the integration of advanced Level 1 and Level 2 automation, a next-generation Human-Machine Interface (HMI), and Machine Learning applications to optimize the rolling pass schedule. These upgrades will enhance production capacity and allow Marcegaglia to expand its product range.
A key feature of the project is Tenova’s Advanced Roll Cluster Configurator, an intelligent system that automatically determines the optimal roll sizes for different rolling configurations, ensuring efficient roll management. Additionally, a vibration monitoring system will be implemented to improve process stability and control.
With these enhancements, the upgraded rolling mill will achieve higher accuracy, improved process reliability, and increased operational efficiency. By integrating automation and digital solutions, Marcegaglia is set to establish new standards in cold rolling performance and production flexibility.
