NextGen® for VCR (AOD) Stainless Steel
Argon Oxygen Decarburization (AOD) is used for extensive decarburization of the melt and is suitable for stainless steel and other high-grade alloy production. NextGen® Insitu real-time measurements maximizes the decarburization process control from the start to the end of the heat.
Overview
NextGen® provides CO and CO2 information during the AOD process, and together with additional real-time process data, enhance heat by heat the dynamic control of the process, improving the operative results in key objectives:
- Efficient operation including heats with high initial carbon levels
- Reduction of high-carbon alloys usage
- Reduction of chromium oxidation losses
- Control of Chemical heating of liquid steel
- Improved steel cleanliness
- Excellent composition control
On the vacuum side of the AOD:
- Reliable start to finish heat measurement
- Reduction of Chromium oxidation, equaling savings in reducing agents (FeSi)
- Improved process heat time
- Savings for shorter vacuum time
- Reductions in process gases (O2, N2)
- No routine maintenance
- No loss of data (data availability >95% of time during heats)
- High accuracy and repeatability
Technical Data
The NextGen® in-situ laser system provides fast and reliable measurement of CO and CO2 from the start to the end of the heat.
The main components are:
- Optical Assemblies lenses and accessories for transition and reception of laser.
- Fiber Optic & Coax cables connecting the optical assemblies to the multipoint analyzer located in the control room
- A dedicated Laser cabinet contains the laser bench for CO/CO2 measurements.
Offgas Web-HMI/SCADA to be located in the control room for offgas visualization, historical data and process analysis
Innovation
In-situ laser analysis provides the most comprehensive off-gas chemistry measurement throughout the heats that can be used to optimize the overall process.
- Laser based
- Simple instllation
- No maintenance
- No calibration
Digital
Tenova’s Web HMI/SCADA is designed on an open architecture to enable maximum flexibility and control in tune with each plant’s process control strategies & preferences.
The HMI/SCADA is a WEB based which is accessible by authorized remote users through the internet thereby providing superior information & control functionality from wherever there is internet access.
