iEAF® for DRI Process
Tenova’s i EAF® technology for DRI fed furnaces continuously monitors the gas-phase, energy and bath/slag properties while providing real-time control of the EAF operation with dynamic adjustments to process parameters.
Overview
The iEAF® for DRI technology is divided into 3 progressive stepwise Modules as follows:
Dynamic Control & Optimization of Chemical Energy (Module 1): based on the industry proven NextGen® technology for continuous off-gas analysis, chemical energy, post combustion optimization and dynamic close loop control of burners, injectors and fume system.
Dynamic Energy Control (Module 2): in conjunction with Module #1, Module #2 is a combination of additional advance off-gas sensors and off-gas process control modules that effectively calculate in real time the EAF Mass & Energy (M&E) balance. The M&E balance allows the calculation of “Net Energy” (Chemical energy plus electrical energy minus losses) delivering to the charge in teal time. It enables control of the DRI feeding rate to maintain the desired bath temperature profile.
Dynamic Oxygen Control (Module 3): building on Module 2, Module 3 allows for real-time calculation of the DRI quality and expected required oxygen to obtain the desired endpoint and FeO in slag. The module controls automatically and dynamically the oxygen lances and carbon injections to avoid over oxidation during the entire heat.
