On November 25, Tenova stands alongside the global community on November 25 to advocate for a world free from violence against women and girls
Established in 1999, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls is observed every November 25. The date commemorates the Mirabal sisters - activists from the Dominican Republic whose assassination in 1960 made them enduring symbols of resistance against oppression. Known as “Las Mariposas” (“The Butterflies”), they embodied the ideals of freedom, transformation, and resilience.
Gender-based violence remains one of the most persistent human rights violations worldwide, and this day serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility to address it. This year, Tenova marks the occasion with an internal initiative inspired by the butterfly motif and the sisters’ legacy. Employees across all offices have been invited to create their own butterflies as a gesture of solidarity and a commitment to an environment where women and girls can feel safe, respected, and empowered.
