The flexibility of the new line for zinc aluminum magnesium alloys will enable the production of three types of coated coils
PT Tata Metal Lestari, a key player in Indonesia’s coated and painted steel industry and part of the global Tatalogam Group, has recently awarded Tenova a contract for the supply of a new hot dip galvanizing line for zinc, aluminum, and magnesium alloy-coated steel coils. This advanced facility will be installed at the Sadang Plant in Cijaya, Kabupaten Purwakarta, Indonesia, and will have an annual production capacity of 250,000 tons.
The new hot dip galvanizing line will be capable of processing Al-Zn, Al-Zn-Mg, and Zn-Al-Mg coated coils, offering versatility in production.
The scope of the project includes the engineering, supply, and supervision of a complete set of equipment for the galvanizing line, including advanced level 2 electrical and automation systems. These systems are developed by Tenova Italimpianti, a Tenova brand renowned for its precision and reliability in processes such as reheating, heat treatment, strip processing, acid regeneration plants, and cold rolling mills.
Key technological features of the new line include an advanced cleaning section that removes surface contaminants to ensure optimal adhesion of the coating. The line also incorporates a high-tech furnace system designed to strictly separate the furnace atmosphere, combustion process, and external environment, preventing surface deterioration of the strip during heat treatment. This ensures high-quality coated surfaces and optimal strip purity.
Additionally, the line will be equipped with air knife systems to control the coating thickness and provide uniform quality for galvanized surfaces. The inline skin pass mill will finish the coated surface with a controlled surface imprint, improving both the strip shape and mechanical properties.
