Accurate slop prediction is a critical tool in the BOF operation that provides an additional protective system to increase yield & productivity while reducing operating costs and minimizing fugitive emissions.
Overview
Tenova’s Intelligent Slopping Detection System (“iSDS®”) continuously monitors changes in BOF lance vibration to provide early detection and advanced warning for the onset of slopping.
The system is designed to provide direct feedback to control lance position and oxygen flow rate for rapid mitigation of potential slopping events avoiding a major ejection of slag & metal from the vessel.
iSDS® technology significantly reduces the number of slopping events through effective prediction of such occurrences and advance alarming to the furnace operators. This solution is proven to:
- Increase yield through reduced losses caused by slopping and reduced down time for equipment cleanup/stopping when slopping occurs
- Increase productivity with the ability to utilize optimal O2 injection rate with minimal risk of slopping
