iBOF® Charge Management Control
Effective charge management balances raw material costs against productivity, yield and steel quality requirements. Tenova’s i BOF® Charge Management properly evaluates all these factors, providing a comprehensive management tool that includes a Static Charge Model, a Scrap Optimizer, and a Ferro-Alloy Optimizer to maintain the lowest cost charge mix while ensuring correct steel chemistry.
Overview
Effective Charge Management is critical to the BOF process from defining the HM/Scrap ratio, optimizing the scrap mix, trim additions & tap alloys and defining end of blow.
iBOF® STATIC CHARGE MODEL allows the steel plant to tailor its specific operating constraints from “Must Have Constraints” to “High Priority Constraints” to “Relaxed Constraints”– the Model uses a Least Squares Method to find the Optimum Solution that satisfies the Must Have and strikes a balance between the High Priority and Relaxed Constraints if needed.
iBOF® RAW MATERIALS OPTIMIZER enables Dynamic optimization of raw materials mix (scrap and ferroalloys) to provide the most cost effective charge mix composition and the most efficient way to meet final steel quality targets by taking into consideration both metallic and non-metallic charge materials and ferroalloy additions to the tapping ladle. The Raw Materials Optimizer also provides the crane operator with the Scrap mix optimized recipe, the Current Weight Acquisition and an historical chronological recording
iBOF® TAP ALLOY OPTIMIZER predicts Ferro-alloys weight required during BOF tapping based on the heat’s target chemistry, Lab Sample analysis, thermodynamics and cost considerations. The SIMPLEX model selects the optimum combination of ferro-alloys to achieve the lowest cost additions required to meet the heat aim chemical analysis
iBOF® LADLE & SCRAP BOX TRACKING provides Automatic Scrap Box and Iron Ladle tracking using a minimally invasive optical solution together with the operating status and life of each ladle and automatic definition of the correct iron ladle number to the corresponding BOF vessel and heat
Technical data
Tenova’s Static Charge Model provides the following features:
- Model Outputs including HM Weight, Scrap Weight & Mix, Additions Weight, Coolant and Fuel Weight and Oxygen Units required to reach the desired endpoint
- Trim Calculations are performed as more inputs are set
- Production Mode for online charge control
- Simulation Mode provides an off-line tool for effective planning WEB HMI provides Operator Control Screens on all the operator stations plus for remote access by authorized management over the internet
- Touch Screen Monitor designed for easy use and operator interaction with the model
- Self-Learning capability is included by calculating a complete mass and energy balance at the end of each heat using the steel and slag samples. This allows for the “historical parameter adaptation” to be applied on the next Heat.
